Wendorf house October

oil painting workshop 2017

A week’s painting workshop in pleinaire painting with artist Gail Wendorf, at

Ft. Burgwin (SMU @ Taos, Hwy 518, Ranchos de Taos, NM  87557), and the Taos, NM environs.

An oil painting workshop for all levels, inclusive of full room and board (shared room), transportation within the workshop, tuition, materials (oils, boards, canvases and easels (you keep your easel)), any entrance fees. Primarily working pleinaire (weather dependent of course) in beautiful North Central New Mexico.  You will be staying on the Ft. Burgwin (SMU @ Taos) campus SE of Taos, NM on Hwy 518.  Each day we will paint outside (or in the art barn if weather is inclement), and visit some of my favorite haunts in No. Central NM (including Taos Pueblo, local art museums, and views I have enjoyed and been inspired by my entire life).

You will be painting the enigmatic and romantic landscape in the environment around Taos, NM.  You’ll learn to organize a “big” landscape, as well as the small and intimate.  You'll learn how to capture the quickly moving light. Each day will be filled with either working the Ft. Burgwin campus or an excursion with a picnic lunch to far flung parts of Taos County, to either paint or experience No. NM in the autumn.  Places like Taos Pueblo, the church at Las Trampas, the famous sculptural church of St. Francis de Assisi at Ranchos de Taos,  the Rio Grande Gorge, the town of Taos, US Hill (which overlooks Ft. Burgwin, Taos, and all the way to Wheeler Peak).

COSTS:  participant $2,500.00

    non-participant spouse $1,500.00

    local resident participant $1,500.00

"I had no idea that the human face had so many colours.  Thanks to Gail, I see different hues, tonesand shades that I didn't before!" Fiona Gibson, Glenfinnan, Scotland

"Tuesday evening 6:45 pm would be my favorite time! With my paint brushes and palette knives all packed, I would head to Gail's art class for 2 hours of pure relaxation and where my creative juices would be allowed to flow.

When I first started painting I was nervous, had zero self conficence and my first attempt was just that, an attempt at something that sort of resembled paint on canvas.  Through Gail's relaxed method of teaching, I soon became aware of colours and shapes.  Gail would guide me through my many painting mishaps and help me look further into my work."Make every stroke count" and "paint what you see" were words of wisdom that Gail would repeat; and I say these to myself each and every time I put paint near a canvas.

I went from a complete beginner to someone who is confident in letting the world see what I can do.  Professional I am most certainly not, BUT by attending Gail's workshops, I have been given the tools and expert guidance to create my own little masterpieces."   Catriona Hunter, Campbell River, Canada - formerly Glenfinnan, Scotland
